Sept 2009 Bus Meet: Glen Affric-Glenshiel Traverse

Sunday, 20th September 2009
O.S.Map(s): 25/33/34
Est. time of arrival: 9.30
Time of departure: 18.00
Leave Elgin: 7.00

The last time we did this traverse in October 2006, we had the most superb weather imaginable, so here’s hoping for a repeat!

Another great location with opportunities for a traverse which can include Munros, Corbetts or low level walking.  I am not sure about the fishing possibilities but I will leave that for those in the know to find out!  The bus will drive up Glen Affric and along Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin to the car park at the bridge (216243) it will then make its way round to Morvich in Kintail and park at the Visitor Centre for the day.

The Sgurr nan Conbhairean range or the traverse of Mullach Fraoch Choire and A’Chralaig are possibilities. Alternatively a walk over Ciste Dubh and Am Bathach to arrive at the door of the Cluanie Inn – an attractive option! To the North are An Socach and Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan and further west lies Beinn Fhada, an excellent but long traverse! There is also an excellent low level walk passing Alltbeithe and the Camban bothy and on to Gleann Lichd or alternatively over the Bealach an Sgairne to Strath Croe.  There is also the low level path south from the hostel to Loch Cluanie.

Not a meet to miss if you like the idea of making best use of the opportunity for a traverse.
